The postmortem of the trainee doctor was done “transparently” and there were no discrepancies found in the report, said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its charge sheet in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case.
The CBI’s response comes against the backdrop of tampering of evidence while dealing with the postmortem report. To verify the accuracy of the report, the probe agency handed over the video of the postmortem examination along with the report to AIIMS, Kalyani.
“During investigation, Medical Board of Experts was constituted by the Head of Department, FMT, AIIMS in Kalyani to examine the videography of inquest proceedings and postmortem examination with the post-mortem report and to opine whether the post-mortem report is consistent with the videography taken during the postmortem examination. Video report dated 19.08.2024 of Prof. & Head, Deptt. of FMT, AIMS, Kalyani, it has been opined that ‘the findings observed in the above-mentioned Inquest Proceedings and Postmortem Examination videography are consistent with the Postmortem Examination report’, the CBI said in its chargesheet.
The CBI filed a charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder of the trainee doctor on August 9, and ruled out the possibility of a gang rape. While ruling out the possibility of a gang rape, the CBI cited 11 pieces of evidence against Roy, suggesting that he acted alone.
The CBI said that Roy’s presence at the hospital on the intervening night of August 8 and 9, was proved by the location of his mobile phone as per CDR (call details record). The short hair recovered from the scene of the crime matched with that of accused Sanjay Roy during the forensic examination by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).
Furthermore, the injuries found on his body are blunt force injuries consistent with the marks of resistance/struggle by the victim, CBI stated.
The 33-year-old Roy initially confessed to the crime after being arrested on August 10. However, he made a U-turn during the polygraph test, claiming he was being framed and was innocent.
